Mechanical Manufacturing Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at City College Plymouth

Course description

This apprenticeship covers different areas of mechanical manufacturing. As an
apprentice you will work alongside skilled engineers, who will be helping you to develop your abilities using machinery and equipment to either make or repair items.

As an apprentice, you duties may include making components by different processes such as grinding, milling or turning, fitting components to mechanical assemblies, repairing and modifying mechanical assemblies and checking that completed assemblies comply with specifications.

Course content

The course content will include:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Manufacturing
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT
  • ERR - Employee Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Personal Learning and thinking skills (PLTS) - Independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective thinking, team working, self-management and effective participation.

Entry requirements

Entry is via an initial assessment at the Work-based Learning Department. 


Assessment is continuous, both on and off the job.

Future opportunities

Upon completion you may wish to progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing or higher level engineering courses at the College. You may also wish to move into employment and benefit from enhanced career opportunities with a range of employers.
