A Level English Language and Literature at Huddersfield New College
There’s so much more to English than the words we speak! English Language and Literature Combined will see you developing the ability to analyse texts and the different techniques writers use to achieve their objective and communicate effectively with their audience. Some of the topics you will cover include:
- Studying texts such as The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and Shakespeare’s Othello
- Exploring poetry including selected poems by Seamus Heaney
- A creative writing project
Through analysing texts and understanding how English can be used to persuade, inform or connect with someone, you will enhance your communication skills!
Our highly qualified teachers help you to develop your love of language and literature through a variety of teaching methods. During lessons, and as part of your independent learning, you will discuss and develop your ideas through taking an open minded approach. You will look at writers’ techniques, some sociolinguistic theory and a range of genres. This subject is a good combination with subjects that involve a high level of essay writing such as History, Government and Politics, Psychology and Sociology.
