Art and Design A2 at Immanuel College

Course description

AS/A2 level Art is aimed at students who have a genuine commitment to and interest in art that extends beyond the classroom. The course provides opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and understanding of artistic theory and practice, by exploring a wide range of stimulating themes using a variety of media and techniques. The aim is for students to become increasingly creative and be encouraged to make judgments about their own work. and that of others.

Course content

Students will be required to produce practical and critical coursework, anda practical controlled test. They will have the opportunity to visit galleries and work withvisiting artists in residence, in order to develop their skills and understanding.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade C or above

GCSE Art minimum grade C is recommended but we will also consider students whohave not taken GCSE if they demonstrate a reasonable level of technical ability and have an understanding of the formal elements of Art and Design.

Further information

This course is extremely rewarding but also very demanding, and students must demonstrate both enthusiasm and commitment for developing and presenting their work.

The Students: 'A Level Art is good as it allows you to work more independently than at GCSE. We have been encouraged to experiment with different techniques such as oil painting, in order to express our individual ideas and creativity. We have particularly enjoyed visiting galleries and working with visiting artists John Coombes and Ian Cole in order to push our skills and thinking further.'
