Sport & Exercise Science BTEC Level 3 at Archbishop Tenison's School

Course description

The core elements of anatomy, physiology, psychology and biomechanics are seen in almost every aspect of sports science. The BTEC level 3 National Award, Certificate and Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences provides a springboard to a university degree or Foundation Degree, to BTEC HNCs and HNDs, or into employment.

The programme is ideal for anyone interested in working in sports teaching, coaching or development.

Course content

The course is a theory based course with some practical elements. All students will study the following areas:

  • Anatomy for sport and exercise
  • Sports nutrition
  • Individual sports
  • Sport psychology
  • Team sports

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent.

Assessment

Continuous assessment through projects, assignments and experiments. The final assessment is based on a portfolio which you will produce over the two years.

Future opportunities

Sport and exercise scientists have a growing presence in the world of sport. You will be able to progress on to a Foundation Degree in sports coaching & Physical Education or another higher level sports qualification, involving the teaching of physical education or sports science. There are many employment opportunities within the sports and leisure industry at all levels.
