Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship at Somerset College

Course description

This course is for learners working in a retail service role. You might be responsible for cash handling, offering advice, answering questions, dealing with complaints.

Course content

These roles could be face-to-face or on the telephone. You will undertake the core unit work effectively in a retail team as well as choose a selection of optional units from specialist areas including (but not limited to):

  • Receiving and checking stock
  • Processing customer orders and returned goods
  • Display stock to promote sales
  • Demonstrate products to customers
  • Help customers to choose products

Entry requirements

GCSE grades A* to C in English and Maths are desirable, but not essential.


The qualification consists of a Level 2 Certificate in Retail Skills and a Certificate in Retail Knowledge. You will also complete Functional Skills in Maths and English, which require an exam. Exemptions may apply.

Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence and be assessed while at Somerset College and also in the workplace by one of our assessors. Evidence will be a mixture of observation, witness testimony, professional discussion and candidate evidence.

Future opportunities

To develop your skills and knowledge further you could progress on to further qualifications.
