Course description

The Foundation Certificate in Building Occupations is designed to prepare people for work in a variety of construction related occupations and has been developed to recognise certain skills and knowledge which are necessary to work in a these given occupations.

Course content

 

CC 1400 Handle and store construction materials and components

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to handle and store construction materials and components.

CC 1401 Fix construction components

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to fix construction components.

CC 1402 Mix construction materials

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to mix construction materials.

CC 1403 Cut, lay and fix construction components

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to cut, lay and fix construction components.

CC 1404 Apply finishing materials

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to apply finishing materials.

CC 1405 Set out for construction components

The aim of this unit is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be deemed trained to set out for construction components.

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for 14-16 year olds who have no previous experience or knowledge of the construction industry.

Applicants will be required to interview for a place on the course. If the interview is successful then applicants must follow our induction process which includes a Numeracy and Literacy diagnostic test.

Assessment

Students are assessed through:

  • Synoptic unit practical assignments
  • Multiple choice unit end tests.

Future opportunities

Further training in the form of a Level 1 or Level 2 Construction Diploma/NVQ
