English Literature at Outwood Academy Valley
English literature offers a genre based approach to texts; the emphasis is on the shared characteristics of groups of texts so, for example, in what ways might a story be considered tragic, or what are the main features shared by all in Gothic texts. In this way the student will develop an understanding of a wider range of reading as well as developing their own reading preferences. Students will also be introduced to a wide range of different critical approaches to their reading.
As a guide, the minimum entry requirement is 5A*-C grades at GCSE or equivalent.
