AS / A Level - Art (Fine Art) at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

The A Level Art (Fine Art) course offers opportunities to explore a variety of methods, techniques and processes including research into relevant artists. Skills taught in session time and during extra curricular workshops are transferable to all areas of art and enhance student creativity and innovation. All projects are personalised and we highly encourage independent study.

Course content


AS Level Art (Fine Art) Year includes:

  • Research into relevant artists
  • Mixed media approaches to painting including inks
  • Mixed media approaches to drawing including stitch
  • Externally set exam project
  • Opportunity to work with practicing artists

A2 Level Art (Fine Art) Year includes:

  • 1000 word essay to complement your specialist practical coursework project
  • Externally set exam project
  • Opportunity to exhibit work in the end of year show
  • Opportunity to work with practicing artists

Entry requirements

A GCSE grade C or above in an art and design subject or BTEC equivalent. Students not taking an art and design required to present a portfolio/selection of their work at interview


50% exam and 50% coursework in both years

Exam board: AQA GCE Art & Design (Fine Art) ARTB

Future opportunities


Past students have successfully progressed onto art and design based courses at university.

Employment destinations have included working for the Art Council, galleries, museums, art education, art therapy, architecture whilst others have achieved great success as independent artists and designers.
