Fine Art GCSE at Ormskirk School

Course description

Fine Art where students will be required to work in one or more areas such as: Drawing and painting on a variety of surfaces including textiles, Sculpture, land art or installation, Printmaking on paper or textiles, Film or video, Mixed media. Course structure is assessed through coursework 60% and a controlled test 40% giving an excellent opportunity for a committed student to achieve his/her full potential. The course is mainly practical but students will be encouraged, and expected, to study some aspect of the History of Art and Design and will have opportunities to visit galleries and work with artists in residence. Students work will be exhibited at regular intervals throughout the year culminating in a final exhibition in June/July of year 2.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Art and Design or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior Designer or Art Teacher. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
