Preparation for Employment in the Construction Industries Level 1 Certificate at Knowsley Community College

Course description

Looking for future employment within the construction Industry? This programme of study provides you with an excellent introduction to the occupational areas within the construction industry. The qualification also promotes the development of wider employment skills, emphasising the importance of appropriate conduct and dress within a work area, customer service, customer care and safe working practice. You will also be able to study towards a construction site safety card (CSCS) A large proportion of this programme of study will be in the workplace so very strict safety guidelines must be met at all times. As part of this programme you will be required to work towards GCSE's in Maths and English

Course content

  • Working in Construction This unit will give learners an understanding of what it is like to work within the world of Construction and the different career paths available. You will be required to work and act safely developing your knowledge and skills to meet industry and employer requirements.
  • Carrying Out Painting and Decorating Operations In this unit you will learn how to identify and use the required tools equipment and resources to carry out a painting and decorating task. Learners will be required to work in such a way as to minimise waste and any risk to your personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Carrying Out Tiling Operations In this unit you will learn how to identify and use the required tools equipment and resources to carry out a tiling task. Learners will be required to work in such a way as to minimise waste and any risk to your personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Carrying out Joinery Operations In this unit you will learn how to identify and use the required tools equipment and resources to carry out a joinery task. Learners will be required to work in such a way as to minimise waste and any risk to your personal safety and the safety of others.

5 GCSE's A- G

Financial information

You will need to obtain a pair of safety boots and white decorator’s overalls. Stationery equipment will also be required for theory sessions.

Future opportunities

Once successfully completed you may wish to progress onto an apprenticeship programme choosing one of the construction areas you found the most enjoyable.
