Information Technology at St Gregory's Catholic School

Course description

Students will develop a common core of IT knowledge and study areas such as the relationship between hardware and software that form an IT system, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information.


Course content

Paper 1: Information Technology Systems

The use of computer systems and the implications of their use in personal and professional situations.


How is it assessed:

- Written exam of 2 hours

- 90 marks

- 33% of Qualification


Paper 2: Creating systems to manage information

The design, creation, testing and evaluation of a relational database system to manage information.


How is it assessed:

10 hour exam split into five sessions.

Completed on the computer and submitted electronically

66 marks

25% of Qualification


Non-exam assessment: Using Social Media in business

Students will explore the impact of social media on the ways in which businesses promote their products and services.

Develop a plan to use social media in a business to meet requirements.

Implement the use of social media in a business.

Internal assessment, external moderation (66 marks) 25% of Qualification.


Non-exam assessment: Website development

Understand the principles of website development.

Design a website to meet a client’s requirements.

Develop a website to meet a client’s requirements.

Internal assessment, external moderation (45 marks) 17% of Qualification.

Entry requirements

Level 5 in English and Maths GCSE

Sixth Form staff are always on hand to help. Students also have access to a state of the art fitness suite and extensive playing fields with all-weather facilities.
