Painting And Decorating L2 Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

You will be working towards the Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating. You will learn how to erect and dismantle access equipment, prepare surfaces for decoration, apply paint with brush and roller, apply foundation papers, produce specialist finishes, apply and create colour. You will also learn about the principles of construction and very importantly health, safety and welfare in construction.

Course content

You will be working towards the Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating, comprising of the following units:
- Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication
- Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms
- Preparing Surfaces for Decoration
- Applying Paint systems by Brush and Roller
- Applying Foundation and Plain Papers
- Producing specialist finishes for decorative work
- Applying and Creating Colour
- Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction.

Those students who have already achieved GCSE English and Maths at grades A-C will also have the opportunity to develop skills in other trade areas.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for this course you must have successfully completed a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or relevent units from the Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills. Consideration will be given to those applicants with experience of decorating at home.


You will achieve your qualification by completing graded practical activities and answering question papers throughout the course, producing a portfolio of evidence. These will be marked by the teaching staff who are all registered assessors. You will also be required to pass two externally set and marked multi- choice exams.

Future opportunities

Progression could be onto the Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating, an apprenticeship in site carpentry or into employment.
