Trees and Timber Level 2 Apprenticeship at Sparsholt College

Course description

Providing evidence of your skills and knowledge plus essential competence certificates, the apprenticeship in Trees and Timber provides the foundation for a career in arboriculture or forestry. Whether starting out, or experienced but needing to formally recognise your skills, the apprenticeship provides a complete programme to open opportunities in all areas of this sector.

The ideal apprentice will enjoy working outdoors, have an interest in the natural environment Ð particularly trees and plant species – using machinery, risk management, and have a passion for developing and maintaining sustainable urban environments.

Course content

An apprenticeship in Trees and Timber will provide the essential skills required by a professional in this industry.

Training will include identification of different tree species and associated plants and pests; planting trees; disposal of trees and stumps; chainsaw and other machinery use and maintenance.

An apprenticeship will also help develop a professional working style, safe working practices, awareness of the work environment and communicating effectively with colleagues and customers.

Other skills will include functional skills (Maths, English) and specialist qualifications such as:

– CS30 – NPTC Certificate in Chainsaw Maintenance
– CS31 – NPTC Crosscutting and Felling of Small Trees
– CS38 – NPTC Certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing and Ariel Rescue (Assessment fee additional)
