Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 Diploma at Tresham College of Further and Higher Education

Course description

This course is for those with experience in hairdressing who are looking to gain recognised full level 2 qualification. Learning takes place in a commercial salon.

Course content

You will learn how to consult with clients and promote products and services, and develop a variety of hairdressing techniques including shampoo and condition, cutting, colouring, perming, styling, dressing and finishing hair.

Entry requirements

GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including English and preferably maths/science. Other relevant qualifications may be considered.

Assessment

Each unit has practical assessments with peer and tutor observations. Online testing forms part of the assessment process.

Financial information

Purchase of salon equipment and uniform will be required, this will be discussed at interview.

Future opportunities

This course will enable you to gain employment in the hairdressing industry as a junior stylist to develop your skills further. Alternativley you may wish to progress onto the advanced hairdressing course to learn more advanced techniques and skills with a good tutor reference and satisfactory attendance record.

    • Our brand new £36m Corby Campus continues to offer a range of vocational programmes training learners for employment in a number of specialist fields, including Construction, Catering, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Engineering. In September 2011 new provision was introduced in Sport, Public Services, Computing, Business, Care and Early Years as well as a number of new Higher Education programmes.

      For the trades, Corby campus has a number of specialist engineering and construction workshops providing realistic working conditions with the most up to date equipment available for our learners. New technology includes a dedicated suite for AutoCAD training.

      The modern building includes dedicated learning pods for each of the different subject areas equipped with learning resources and computer facilities. A 3G astroturf similar to the one at the college's Kettering campus will also be utilised by the Sports and Public Services provision and will be available for hire by local orgainsations and sports teams.

      A state of the art fitness suite provides relevant training for sports science and fitness instructors and will open to learners and staff at the campus. Supported Learning Programmes are able to utilise the most up to date sensory equipment and aids to encourage independant living.

      The Skills for Life Workshop has now moved to the new campus for individuals to improve their basic Maths and English skills and English classes for speakers of other languages.

      Tresham Studios, the college's brand new hair and beauty salons in the Corby campus, offer an extensive range of hair, beauty and complimentary treatments at very competitive prices within realisitic working environments for learners to gain vital work experience. Daytime and evening appointments are available during term time.

      The Manor restaurant is Tresham's prestigious new training restaurant located in the beautiful historic Manor House building, just a short walk away from the new Corby campus. The fully licensed Manor Restaurant will be open to the public for morning coffee, lunch and evening meals. Speciality dinners and theme nights also take place throughout the year.
