Animal Management Level 3 at Malvern Hills College
This course is ideal for both school leavers who are looking for a career with animals, and also for those already employed in the animal industry and who wish to develop management skills. The Level 3 course can also be used to gain UCAS points in order to gain entry to university.
Subjects covered on this course will include:
- Animal health, biology, anatomy, nutrition and physiology
- The principles of nutrition and animal feeding
- Animal behaviour
- Vetinary nursing
- Dog grooming, animal welfare and breed development
- General animal accommodation, safe handling and farm livestock
- Two Functional Skills - GCSEs in Maths or English, or Enterprise studies
- 300 hours of work placement or related experience.
Students will be assessed through individual assignment work which will be a combination of reports, projects, presentations. You will attend a work placement and work on an assignment linked to that placement. Classwork will be a mixture of group work and discussions alongside independent research and assignment writing. Practical work with the College animals will be part of the day’s work plus working visits to outside animal organisations.
You will also complete an independent research project.
You will need a broad education and preferably five GCSEs grade A* - C (one of which should be in an academic subject - preferably English), or a Level 2 Animal Care qualification at Merit Level plus a Functional Skill Level 1 in English. All applicants will need to have a successful interview and be able to provide a reference.
On successful completion of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Animal Management students can progress into employment in the animal care industry, or continue their studies on a Higher Education course.
