Vehicle Maintenance and Repair IMI Level 1 Certificate at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to gain practical experience and underpinning knowledge in the repair of modern cars.

Course content

The following units will be studied; working safely and effectively during light vehicle maintenance and repair. Foundation skills for light vehicle maintenance and repair. Light vehicle construction and routine maintenance including operating principles of light vehicle tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems and operating principles of light vehicle engines. Operating principles of the maintenance of light vehicle transmission systems Operating principles and maintenance of light vehicle electrical and electronic systems.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSE grades A* - D including at least a D grade in Maths, English and Science or an Entry-level Diploma in light vehicle technology.

Assessment

The course has a wide variety of assessment methods including: practical assessment, on-line testing, unit end-tests & coursework, all of which have to be completed for success.

Financial information

Whilst every attempt is made to keep the costs to the candidate to a minimum, the college reserves the right to charge candidates amounts over and above published fees in response to any additional charges from the awarding body. You will need to purchase the department uniform, protective boots and course books. You will also need to pay for some trips and visits

Future opportunities

This course will set you on your way for a future in the motor trade. On successful completion of this course, students can progress onto the IMI Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, employment, or intermediate apprenticeships.
