Maths GCSE at Grange Technology College
Mathematics is an important subject that it is used every day. You will use mathematical skills in other subjects such as Geography, Science and Psychology. Having good mathematical skills and having a GCSE grade C in the subject will help you meet the criteria set for University, some college courses and at work.

You will continue to develop Mathematical skills encountered previously and develop new ones.
You will continue to study Number, Algebra, Shape, Space and Measure and Handling Data in Year 10 and further develop Number, Algebra and Shape, Space and Measure skills in Year 11.There is the possibility to complete the GCSE course in one and develop skills that will support the A levels courses in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Year 11 provided a grade B has been achieved.
Abilities to analysis problems, identify the skills necessary to solve the problem and finally check that your solution is correct are essential. It is also advantageous to be able to work as a team, developing leadership skills as well as the ability to work on your own. It is also important that a scientific calculator and a geometry set are brought to each lesson.
This is an examination only course. The specification is AQA Modular. 60% of the course will be completed in Year 10
- The first examination will be in November of Year 10 (Handling Data).
- The second examination will be in June of Year 10 (Number, Algebra + SSM1).
The remaining 40% will be completed in Year 11.
Access to university courses and/or careers in medicine, health, accountancy, finance and engineering. Employment in most areas of work.
