Performance Studies - A Level at St Gregory the Great Catholic School

Course description

Performance Studies aims to establish an approach to the performing arts which is multidisciplinary and develops qualities of imagination, sensitivity, artistic knowledge and understanding. Students have the opportunity to acquire skills in dance, drama and music and study approaches that unite them as well as devising original pieces of work and performing existing repertoire.
AS Course Content
Unit 1 G401Creating Performance
Elements include skills based workshops in individual art forms (dance, drama and music), a longer piece that combines elements of all three art forms performed in a community venue, a written commentary on the practical work and a performance of the longer community piece are assessed.
Unit 2 G402 Performance Contexts
Two practitioners are studied, each from different sections eg Lloyd Newson, Athol Fugard, The Beatles, George Gershwin.

Entry requirements

A minimum of six A*-C GCSE passes and be accomplished in dance, drama or music.
