Course description

Why study this course?

The BTEC IT Level 3 National aims to give learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in Information Technology systems, systems management and social media in business. The assessment structure of the course has changed, requiring students to complete a written examination and complete a task set and marked under controlled conditions. The key topics of the course involve computer systems (hardware/software/mobile devices), databases, spreadsheets and understanding the impact of IT in business.

What support and enrichment will I get?

To help support students complete assignment work there will be opportunities to attend lunchtime or after school sessions with the teacher who can offer more individualised help. Alternate years, students will have the opportunity to attend an ICT conference that has a range of guest speakers discussing the impact of ICT on their organisations.

Entry requirements

To study this course the students should meet the standard entry requirements of the Sixth Form. Students will need a good work ethic and be able to meet strict deadlines. If students studied BTEC IT Level 2 at Key Stage 4 then they should have attained a Merit grade in order to move onto the Level 3 course.

Future opportunities

BTEC IT Level 3 provides students with a range of ICT skills that are all tailored towards employment. The skills are taught with life like examples to ensure students are prepared for how they will use ICT within organisations. This qualification will acquire UCAS points that offer a progression route to a course at University.
