Mathematics A Level at The Heath School

Course description

Year 1: Core 1 and Core 2 -plus one Applied Module Year 2: Core 3 and Core 4 -plus one Applied Module.

Course content

Core Mathematics further develops the algebraic and Mathematical skills required for problem solving. You will build upon topics from GCSE, as well as learning new topics including differentiation, integration and logarithms. Statistics involves analysing data, and again builds upon topics from the GCSE course. You will also be introduced to new topics such as Regression and The Normal Distribution.


How will I be assessed? Three exams at the end of Vi 2 and three exams at the end of Y13. The exams are equally weighted; 1 hr 30 minutes in length. There is no coursework element.

Future opportunities

Mathematics is a highly respected subject that demonstrates students' ability to think clearly and solve problems. Mathematics will provide students with the opportunity to progress to a variety of Further Educational courses. Mathematics can also lead into a myriad of careers.
