Health and Social Care - Cambridge Technical at Kesgrave High School
Health and Social Care (H&SC) combines elements of many different school subjects including; sociology, biology, psychology, law and PSHEE.
The course links to many different sectors of industry where you could make a difference in someone’s life eg early childcare, people with disabilities, speech and language therapy or older people.
You will be taught formally about theoretical aspects of the course but will also be expected to individually investigate, carry out assignments and apply knowledge to assignments meeting clearly designated deadlines.
No prior learning. However, the ability to write an essay and to work independently would be helpful. A Biology background would be useful but not essential.
You have to complete 1 mandatory unit – Developing effective communication in health and social care.
5 further units will be chosen, allowing you to specialise in different areas of the care industry such as nutrition for health and social care, caring for older people and care for individuals with additional needs.
The Cambridge Technical is all assignment based work marked in school by your teachers – there are no exams.
Health and Social Care is a course particularly aimed at students who think they would like to work in: The caring services (for example social work, youth and community work, probation, housing, counselling or advice work). The health services (dieticians, occupational therapy) or with small children (teaching, educational psychologists, child-minders). You can also apply to university in the above fields.
