Law AS/A Level at Idsall School

Course description

AS Level (Year 12)
How laws are made and changed by the courts and Parliament.
Police powers and the individual’s rights in relation to these powers.
The criminal courts and sentencing.
The civil courts and other methods of dispute resolution.
Judges, Magistrates, Juries, Barristers and Solicitors.
Funding legal action eg. Conditional Fee arrangements.

A Level (Year 13) Criminal Law including:

Offences against the person eg. Murder
Offences against property eg. Theft

Entry requirements

Apart from the minimum entry requirements for the Sixth Form you are expected to achieve at least a grade 5 in GCSE English Language and Literature. The exam board expects students to have adequate literacy skills evidenced by other academic GCSE subjects which require them to demonstrate a satisfactory level of literacy.

Future opportunities

Many students take Law at AS or A Level intending to study Law at University and indeed pursue a career in Law such as a legal executive, solicitor or barrister. However, the skills developed during the A Level will be welcomed by both employers and universities alike.
