Engineering Extended Diploma Level 3 at Sandwell College

Course description

This advanced, two-year full-time course is designed for young people who have an interest in manufacturing and wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 in Engineering. It is ideal if you want to progress to university or into employment.

Course content

You will study nine units during each year of the programme, from a selection including: Project, Communications, Electrical Principles, Mechanical Principles, Mathematics, CNC, CAD, Engineering Drawing, Construction and Application of Digital Systems, Manufacturing Processes, Further Mathematics, and Telecommunications.

After successful completion of the first year, students will have gained a Level 3 90-Credit Diploma; they may then choose whether to go on to gain the full Extended Diploma in the second year.

Entry requirements

Students will require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics (Higher Paper), or a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering at Distinction grade and a C in Maths and English.


You will be assessed by portfolio and assignments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you will be able to gain entry to an HNC in Manufacturing Engineering or apply to university.
