Business (BTEC Level 3) at New College Swindon

Course description

The Certificate is equivalent to an AS qualification and the Extended Certificate is equivalent to a full A level. You will study a range of topic areas across this course which will aim to prepare you for further study or work. The course has been designed with employers & universities and goes well alongside subjects such as ICT & Maths. 

Course content


  • Exploring Business (Assignments and reports in class)

Here you will explore the main features of businesses, how they interact with stakeholders & communicate effectively. You will investigate business structures and their aims & objectives. As well as this you will look at the internal & external business environment including competition & the supply and demand of products/ services.

  • Developing a marketing campaign (Project task)

In this unit you will learn about the fundamentals of marketing activities. You will look at the planning, delivery and evaluation of a successful marketing campaign which will be assessed through the development of your own campaign.


Extended Certificate
  • Finance (Exam)

In this unit you will learn the fundamentals of business and personal finance. You will create and interpret financial statements & learn how to report to people about finance. You will also investigate the problems that businesses have with financial management as well as the solutions using case study materials.

  • Optional Unit

Entry requirements

You must have 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, including English & Maths. ICT GCSE will be a benefit in this course, but not essential.


A range of assessments are used across the life of course including written assignments, projects & external exams.
