Sport & Exercise Science (Triple) BTEC Level 3 at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

This course focuses on the science behind sport and how this us used to develop performance. This subject is the equivalent of 3 A-Levels in Sport and Exercise Science, meaning that it will be the only subject in the learners’ study programme. With the demands for faster, stronger, more successful athletes nowadays, this course gives learners an insight into how this is achieved by covering the key components of Sport and Exercise Science.

Learners will gain valuable skills as well as an understanding of the different roles within sport and exercise science. This course is well suited to those with a passion for sport and an interest in how sporting performances can continue to develop in the future.

Course content

Learners will study 13 different units over the 2 years. Some of the units included in this course are:

  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science
  • Nutrition for Sport and Exercise
  • Sports Injury and Assessment

Entry requirements

Grade C in English, Maths and Science GCSE. GCSE PE Grade C or above preferred but not essential.


Awarding Body – Pearson

69% coursework | 31% exam/external assessment.

Learners will be assessed through a mixture of internal and external assessment. Some units are assessed by an external exam, some by coursework and some by coursework tasks that are marked externally.

Future opportunities

Upon completion learners would be well prepared for further study of Sport and Exercise Science at higher education level or careers in the Sport industry.
