Course description

There are many roles available in the Health and Social Care sector, providing varied opportunities to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way – and the demand for skilled people is growing.

Course content

Mandatory units in Year 12

Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development (exam)

Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs (Coursework)

Mandatory Unit in Year 13

Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care (exam)

1 Optional Unit in Year 13

  • Psychological Perspectives
  • Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs
  • Physiological Disorders and their Care

Entry requirements

Students need to have a minimum of 39 points to study Health and Social Care and have at least a grade 4 in English.

Assessment

Equivalent in size to one A Level

Over the 2 Year course

2 externally examined units of work with exams.

2 internally assessed units of work with coursework.

Once you have completed your studies whatever you choose to do will be doing a job that is varied, rewarding and worthwhile working with people from all walks of life.

Students who complete this qualification will develop transferable high order skills which are highly regarded by Universities and employers. The qualification carries UCAS points and is also highly regarded by those employers offering Apprenticeships.

The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals and A levels. Health and Social care works well in combination with Sociology, Psychology and Biology – depending on future aspirations. These could include careers in the NHS or Care sectors.
