Further Mathematics at Reepham High School and College

Course description

Mathematics has a wide importance across the world, and it is advancing at a spectacular rate. Mathematics is about pattern and structure; promoting skills in logical analysis, deduction and calculation. When patterns are found, often in widely different areas of science and technology, the mathematics of these patterns can be used to explain and control natural happenings and situations.

Mathematics has a pervasive influence on our everyday lives, and contributes to the wealth of the country. Students who study Mathematics will sit six modules across the two years. All modules are examined and there is no coursework assessment. Four of these will be based around core mathematics topics; gaining new skills and a greater understanding of the subject.

The other two modules are applied mathematics, which allow students to see how the subject can be used in more real life situations. If you are willing to work hard and enjoy the challenge and clarity of Mathematics, then this course is for you. A level Mathematics is highly regarded by universities and complements most other A levels, particularly the Sciences, Economics and Business Studies.

Further Mathematics is an additional A level which can be taken in conjunction with A level Mathematics. The course allows students to gain further skills in both core and applied situations, modules cover Complex Numbers, Matrices and Decision Mathematics. Further Mathematics is designed for able students who want to maximise their appeal to universities.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English or Mathematics and have to meet the minimum entry requirements for each subject. Mathematics - Grade ‘B’ in MathematicsFurther Mathematics - Grade ‘A’ in Mathematics
