Law (Applied) - BTEC at Bristol Brunel Academy

Course description

Are you interested in a career in law, or are planning to go to university which carries the same UCAS points as A-Level Law?

Course content

Year 1

Three mandatory units:

  • Dispute Solving in the Legal System
  • Understanding Law Making
  • Aspects of Legal Liability  
Year 2

A choice of three optional specialist units in the second year between;

  • Unlawful Homicide and Police Powers
  • Aspects of Property Offences and Police Powers
  • Contract Law 

 

Entry requirements

Merit in BTEC Level 2, Preferably a C in English (Literature or Language), and 4 other C-A* equivalent GCSEs

Minimum Academic Standard for Progression into Y13

Entry into Y13 is not automatic in CLF Post 16.

The majority of students will continue into Y13 dependent on the entry criteria for courses as outlined below:

For BTECs all students must attain a minimum vocational standard of passes for successful progression.

Students who do not meet the entry requirements into Y13 will be given guidance about a change of study programme and relevant courses available. They will not be allowed to re-sit the same core learning aims (i.e. subjects) as they did in Y12.

Assessment

Mostly coursework based, plus an externally marked assessment on the mandatory unit content. Each unit contribute to a portfolio of evidence for submission for final overall grade.

Future opportunities

Progression

The skills and knowledge acquired through studying this course provide a sound basis for students who wish to progress to a degree in Law or most other degrees including Business Studies, Criminology and Accountancy.
