Introduction to Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Level 1 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course offers a sound introduction to the exciting and prosperous careers in hairdressing and beauty therapy. You will gain knowledge and learn new techniques and skills in a variety of basic hairdressing services.

Course content

You may study the following: • Shampoo and conditioning • Hair Plaiting • Skin care • Hand care • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector • Presenting a professional image • Styling women’s hair • Basic make-up application • Nail art application • Basic manicure • Basic pedicure • Create a hair and beauty image • Health and safety • Compulsory work placement All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including maths and English. 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D-G preferably including English or maths. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, coursework, practical performance, portfolio presentation and practical performance

You will need to buy: • Kit - £110.00 • Uniform - £47.00 Approx. Possible trips and events that are available but not compulsory include: (This can be subject to change) • Professional Beauty- £10.00 • Blackpool Hair Show - £15.00 Information will be given at personal interview. Future opportunities

The course can lead on to Hair & Beauty Diploma Level 2, Hairdressing Diploma Level 2 and Beauty Therapy Diploma Level 2.

Further information

You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course. 

On completion of this course you will receive a City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.
