Vehicle Accident Repair Technology Intermediate Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

The Intermediate Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Technology is designed for students that have no experience of accident repair. The majority of the programme revolves around vehicle refinishing, but does incorporate core panel beating and welding skills. The programme includes the following subjects:
- Vehicle Body Technology
- Vehicle Refinishing Technology
- Vehicle Body Repair Techniques
- General Engineering
- Welding
- Accident Damage Estimating

The programme is made up of theory sessions which underpin practical sessions to enable students to complete practical assessments as well as fully understanding the technology of the industry.

Course content

As part of this course learners will gain general bodyshop experience and study the following units: 

- Automotive Vehicle Workshop Environment Studies
- Preparing Automotive Vehicle Bodies for Refinishing
- Repair Automotive Vehicle Bodies
- Remove and Replace Non-Structural Body Panels and Components
- Prepare and Apply Foundation Materials

Entry requirements

Students typically would have 4 GCSEs at Grade A*-D including Maths or English, but applicants will be assessed and advised on an individual basis.


Learners' performance will be measured with a combination of written tests, computer-based tests and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

Students can progress to the Advanced Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Technology or to an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Body and Paint Operations. Students could also gain employment in a bodyshop in the paint preparation department.
