Art and Design Level 2 Diploma (ADF1) at Barnsley College
Providing an opportunity for those who are intrigued by art and design to explore.
Develop and test your creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, enhance self-confidence and reveal the potential career demands and opportunities that exist in the sector.
This course encourages you to explore and develop art and design ideas in both 2D and 3D. The work you produce will be shaped by your own research.
This course encourages you to explore and develop art and design ideas in both 2D and 3D. The work you produce will be shaped by your own research. You will work with a range of media and techniques within the following areas:
•Painting and drawing
•Graphic design abd photography
•Fashion design and textiles
•3D Design and design crafts
Four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English
You will take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme and are advised to bring a portfolio of work to your interview in order to demonstrate your interests and abilities
You will periodically present your folder of work to your personal tutor for your evaluation record to be updated. There will also be external testing of selected units, including controlled test elements.

If your total annual household income is less than £35,000 you could be eligible for financial support through our Learner Support Fund for travel (up to £700), if your household income is below £20,000 you could be eligible for food, trips, printing, equipment and childcare. You don’t have to pay this money back.
You can pick up a Learner Support Fund application form from Student Services on the ground floor at the Old Mill Lane campus.
If you are aged between 16 and 18 and currently living on your own, in care or leaving care, you could be eligible for a non-repayable bursary of up to £1,200 per year.*

FREE bus services!
We realise that getting to and from college might not be very easy for everyone so we have funded four free return bus services for our students. They go to and from the Old Mill Lane campus which is just a few minutes’ walk from our Sixth Form college campus.

Stocksbridge via Penistone > Old Mill Lane campus
South Elmsall via South Kirby, Hemsworth, Kinsley, Fitzwilliam and Ryhill > Old Mill Lane campus
Rotherham via Ecclesfield and Chapeltown > Old Mill Lane campus
These bus routes are completely free for our students and operate on a first come, first served basis. Each route operates to ensure students get to college before lessons start and a return service is provided after lessons finish. Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including Graphic Designer, Concept Artist, Fashion Designer, Pattern Cutter, Gallery/Museum Curator, Illustrator, Art and Design Teacher, Interior Designer, Textile Designer, Photographer and other related roles.
Education – There are a range of other courses onto which you can progress and specialise in your creative interests.
