English Language GCSE at St James's C E High School

Course description

These are two separate qualifications but the courses are closely linked and taught in your four English lessons each week. English Language AQA 4705 This is a unitised course. There are 3 units Unit 1 Understanding and Producing Non-Fiction Texts. This will be assessed by an exam in two parts and accounts for 40% of the total GCSE marks. In Part A you will answer questions based on non-fiction sources (20%) In Part B you will do two writing tasks (20%) Controlled Assessment accounts for 60% of the course and there are two units:- Unit 2: Speaking and Listening (20%) You will be assessed on 3 activities • presenting • discussing and listening • role playing Unit 3: Understanding Spoken and Written texts and Writing Creatively (40%) Part a Extended Reading (15%) You will study a text from a selection set by the exam board and produce a written response. Part b Creative Writing (15%) You will choose two tasks from a selection provided by the exam board. Part c Spoken Language Study (10%) In this unit, you will investigate how people use language and use your research to present an analytical response.
