Product Design A Level at South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College

Course description

Studying Product Design offers a chance for you to improve the way we live in many ways, be it technically, commercially or sustainably. Shape, colour, user perception, usability and sustainability are just some of the elements you will learn to work with.

Course content

What will I learn?Innovation Challenge

This is a seven-hour design challenge which assesses your ability to be innovative, demonstrate flair, work with materials and apply knowledge and skills gained throughout the AS Course.

Product Study 

The Product Study is an inclusive design and makes task set by designers from Ideal Standard who will make regular visits throughout the coursework listening to feedback and providing constructive feedback and guidance. This not only provides links with industry but gives valuable experience working with real-world clients.

Design, Make and Evaluate 

In this unit you are required to produce a coursework portfolio and product which fully demonstrates your designing, making and evaluation skills, using creativity, flair and innovation. 

Product Design 

This is an exam which incorporates all the knowledge you have gained over the course. The main subject content is focused towards products, applications and your analysis.

The links we have with Ideal Standard are invaluable and will help develop skills that you will find beneficial throughout life. In Year 13 you are asked to find your own clients to work with. There is a very big emphasis on independent study and excellent time management skills are essential.
