Mechanical Services (Gas, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Heating & Ventilating) Intermediate/Advanced Apprenticeship - Level 2 / 3 at Dudley College

Course description

This programme offers the benefits of experience at work supported by learning at college and is especially suited to you if you do not wish to stay in full-time education and have a good idea of what you want to do. You will study:

  • Heating and ventilating (industrial, domestic and service and maintenance)
  • Plumbing or gas-fitting including practical experience
  • Background theory and technical aspects
  • Health and Safety
  • Functional skills.

Entry requirements

Apprenticeship Level 2:

You will need GCSEs in English and maths at grade C or above, together with an interview.

Apprenticeship Level 3:

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above or a Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification.

You must be in employment. You will be given help to secure employment if necessary.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a variety of methods including continual assessment, externally set examinations and work-based assessment.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2016.

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

From Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 you may progress to NVQs in domestic heating, heating and ventilation, service and maintenance, gas fitting and plumbing or Higher Education, professional qualifications or seek promotion opportunities.
