Course description

This course is aimed at anyone who is interested finding out more about a career in either the public services or sports industry.

Course content

This programme includes a variety of practical, theoretical and applied sport and fitness topics. The course combines compulsory and optional units including:

  • Self-assessment
  • Career progression
  • Healthy eating
  • Taking part in physical activities and fitness
  • Working in a team
  • Planning and assisting with sports activities
  • Working in the sports industry
  • Investigating work opportunities in the public services sector

Entry requirements

No prior entry qualifications are required but your suitablity will be assessed before acceptance on to this course.


Assessment will be through the successful completion of a portfolio of evidence. Evidence will be generated through:

  • Practical assessments
  • Demonstrations
  • Group assessments
  • Self-reflection
  • Written assessments

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Sport or Public Services. Alternatively, you could find employment in the rapidly expanding sport and leisure industry.

Our students have progressed on to courses at a higher level and found employment in a wide variety of roles including personal trainer, sports official, physical education teacher, leisure assistant or sports nutritionist.
