Bricklaying Apprenticeship Level 2 at CDC

Course description

This course is ideal for apprentices wanting to take a first step into becoming a qualified bricklayer.

This apprenticeship is recognised by the building industry and would enable the individual to work competently on site within the building industry for this particular trade.

Working on a domestic and commercial construction sites, to given specifications, setting out basic structures, building brick, stone and block walling, placing and finishing concrete foundations.

Course content

All learning done in the workplace with the exception of guided learning sessions 1 day per week at the Construction Design Centre and functional skills which, if required, is done through timetabled sessions also within the centre.

This also includes achievement of the NVQ which is made up of the following units;

Mandatory units:

  • Health and Safety
  • Understanding Information
  • Understanding Construction Technology
  • Set out Masonry structures
  • Construct Solid Walling
  • Construct Cavity Walling

Optional units to include:

  • Erecting thin joint masonry structures in the workplace
  • Erecting Masonry Cladding in the workplace

Entry requirements

Maths and English grade D/5+ or above


The qualification is assessed in two ways;

  • Multiple choice question paper, covering knowledge outcomes.
  • Practical assignment, covering performance outcomes.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this apprenticeship can lead to continued experience in the industry where the opportunity to work towards the level 3 apprenticeship qualification is highly likely.
