Popular Music Performance BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at South Downs College
If you enjoy performing live contemporary music as part of a band, this could be the course for you.
This is a largely practical course to be studied alongside an A level programme or a full-time BTEC Extended Diploma in Music Technology, adding a performance element to a very technical course.
Many students are now studying this course alongside the Advanced Music Production Subsidiary Diploma to gain a full education in music, while still enabling them to study two further A level subjects.
In the first year you will complete three units to gain a BTEC Certificate in Music, including a practical performance unit, which culminates in a performance at a professional venue at the end of each term.
In the second year you will complete an additional three units that focus on rehearsal and performance.
As well as developing as a band and performing contemporary music, you will study traditional genres (Jazz and Blues) and perform improvised pieces, gaining a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at the end of two years of study.
There are a variety of pathways open to those that complete this course.
Previous students have progressed onto music degrees; others have found employment within the industry; some have managed both.
It can also be used to bolster your UCAS points (equivalent to one A level) for acceptance onto unrelated degree courses.
