Fashion and Textiles A Level at South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College

Course description

This course will widen your knowledge in the use of materials through technological understanding, whilst your design skills will be challenged and you will become familiar with past and present designers. It is important to understand that this course is not fashion, but Product Design which encourages a more creative approach to the use of textiles.

Course content

What will I learn?

Materials, Components and Application 

Explore different fibre types and their use, fabric manufacture, product components, manipulation of materials. 

Learning through Designing and Making

These are designed and make units where your knowledge and creativity is applied to the development of your own products and supporting portfolios.

Design and Manufacture 

Covers the development of design and communication methods to include industrial and commercial practice. All aspects of the product are considered from concept to point of sale.

Assessment

Technology is a fast-paced subject; what you learn today is already out of date tomorrow. There is no other subject which is developing and changing so quickly. You will be encouraged to broaden your knowledge through extensive research, reading contemporary magazines.
