Engineering Level 1 Diploma at Milton Keynes College
Are you are over 16 years of age and considering Engineering as a career? Maybe the academic route has not worked for you, and a more practical vocational style of learning will?
Are you curious and want to know both the theory and the practical applications of Engineering? Do you see challenges rather than problems? Then this course is ideal for you.
This course is open to you if you are over 19 years of age but you may incur additional fees depending upon your personal and family situation.
- Working safely in an Engineering environment
- Communication for Engineers
- Mechanical Engineering including science and material properties
- Electrical and electronic engineering
- Workshop skills
- IT Skills – standard Office Software and specialist Engineering packages.
With this course you can expect to receive around 60% practical and 40% theoretical instruction as a guide. This is dependent upon unit selection.
PERSONAL QUALITIES (ALL CANDIDATES): You need to have a proactive approach to your personal development and studies. You should display positive attitudes and appropriate behaviour when dealing with other students or college staff.
EXTERNAL CANDIDATES: GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics at grade D or higher. Following application you will be invited to:-
- Attend an interview with engineering staff
- Complete a hand written enhanced interview question paper
- Take an on-line test (BKSB) for functional use of Mathematics and English Language.
PROGRESSION CANDIDATES: You must have successfully achieved level 1 Functional Skills in both Mathematics and English.
Your application must be supported by positive references from your current tutor(s).
Your overall attendance must be recorded as above the college benchmark of 90% and you must not have received formal written warnings for:
Poor attendance or timekeeping
Failure to complete course work within the allotted timeframe.
You will be assessed throughout the duration of the 1 year course through written assignments and practical work.
You may choose to progress to the Level 2 course offered by Milton Keynes College.
Alternatively you may choose to pursue an Apprenticeship and links can be made while you are studying with us.
You can also enter employment in a craft role within the Engineering Industry.
