Construction - Level 2 Study Programme in Maintenance Operations at Wakefield College
Maintenance Operatives carry out general repairs and maintenance to existing buildings. They perform tasks associated with a wide variety of different trades rather than specialising in just one area. You could be working in people’s homes or on commercial buildings such as schools, hospitals, offices and shops. This course aims to provide a basic knowledge of construction repair and to develop and practise the skills for employment and a career in this craft area. This is an ideal course for those who are looking to learn on a full-time basis and have identified that they want to enter the construction industry and have a career maintaining buildings. Maintenance operative study programme starts with a level 2 diploma programme. Learners progress from this to level 3 study either as a full time learner or as part time as an apprentice. A maintenance operative could earn up to £12000 per year and qualified can earn up to £25000
All study programmes cover health, safety, and principles of construction relevant to the trade. They also aim to develop practical skills for to enable you to carry out small scale repairs in various trades in the construction sector. With this you will study: • Principles of construction • How to work safely in a construction environment • How to carry out building repairs to brickwork • How to carry out plastering repairs • How to carry out plumbing repairs • How to carry out carpentry repairs
5 GCSEs grade A*-D (new grade 9-3)
Level 1 in Construction Skills would be an advantage.
How you will be assessed
Assessment is continuous throughout the academic year and as such, it offers some flexibility, allowing the skill development of each learner to be assessed on an individual basis. Learners are encouraged to develop a portfolio to record their skills development.
Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residential etc. which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.
