Electrical 7 Electronics Engineering Level 3 Extended Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those preparing to pursue a career within electrical & electronic engineering. It offers routes into further study (higher education) and a range of employment opportunities at engineering technician level.

Course content

The course consists of core units common to all Engineering BTEC programmes and twelve additional units chose from a range.
Core Units
 
 Health and Safety at Engineering Workplaces
 Communication for Technicians
 Electrical and Electronic Principles
 Mathematics for Technicians
 Project (This is a double unit taken in the second year)
 
Additional Units may include:
 
 Principles and Applications of Engineering Devices
 Electrical Technology
 Business Operation for Technicians
 Further Mathematics for Technicians
 Electronic Fault Finding
 Electronic Measurement and Testing
 Principles and Applications of Analogue Electronics
 

 

Entry requirements

Students must have at least five GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Maths, Science and English) with a satisfactory interview. A technical background would be useful but not essential. Suitable prior knowledge and skills will be taken into account at interview.

Assessment

The course will be internally assessed through a programme of assignments, projects, case studies & practical activities.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
 
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

A successful student with a Merit grade or above in at least five subjects may have the opportunity to study a higher engineering course at this college or at university. (See individual course entries for desired Universities). This may be a degree or HNC programme.
