Future opportunities

Mathematics is a facilitating subject. For those contemplating degrees in, for example, engineering, sciences, computing or finance / economics or maths itself, further mathematics - at least to AS Level - will be hugely beneficial. Universities respect A-level maths regardless of the degree being sought. AS further maths introduces new topics such as matrices and complex numbers that are vital in many STEM degrees. Students who have studied further mathematics find the transition to such degrees more straightforward. If you decide to study a mathematically rich subject during Year 12 but are not taking AS further maths, it is often possible to start this alongside A Level maths in Year 13.
