Course description

This course is for students over 16 wishing to know how to start up and run their own business or social enterprise.The course has been designed and developed with the PJEA (Peter Jones Enterprise Academy) to give learners a qualification that will enable them to:* Start-up and run a fully functioning business to develop their entrepreneurial skills* Focus on their own self development through the start-up process* Interact with entrepreneurs and business people throughout the course of studyThe course is unit based and includes 9 mandatory units which are:1. The innovative entrepreneur.2. Business planning and pitching.3. Financial planning and implementation.4. Launching your business vision.5. Monitoring the performance of your business.6. Operating your business.7. Planning the future strategy of your business.8. Leadership and teamwork.9. Working as an Entrepreneur (work placement).10. Market research and analysis.13. E marketing and website design.14 Brand development and promotion.15. Social enterprise.16. Managing a business event.18. Understanding retailing.20. Business project management.21. Recruitment and selection in business.22. Development planning for a career in business.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grades A* - C including maths and English; or a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject area at Merit grade or above (plus GCSE maths and English at grade C), and a successful interview.

Assessment

There is a continual assessment for each of the units by vocational assignments leading to external quality assessment called National Standard Sampling.Students will also be required to undertake at least a four week intern ship at a host organisation.

Future opportunities

Set up and run your own business or social enterprise. Opportunities to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Level 4/5 BTEC Higher Nationals Business or an honours degree. This Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels for university entrance purposes.
