Plumbing and Heating Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship at Wiltshire College

Course description

Plumbing and heating is an ever developing industry, which requires qualified specialists to carry out work safely and effectively.

A highly competitive industry, employees work with a wide range of materials and technologies from domestic boilers to advanced welding techniques to computerised control systems.

Job roles can include installing sanitation and heating systems, servicing boilers, laying drainage pipes and even working with environmentally friendly technology such as solar water heating and rain water harvesting.

Course content

Advanced Apprenticeships in Plumbing and Heating can include training in a wide range of units including:

  • Carrying out Electrical Work on Domestic Plumbing and Heating Systems
  • Planning Complex Domestic Plumbing work
  • Installing domestic plumbing systems
  • Commissioning and decommissions domestic plumbing systems and gas pipework
  • Organising resources
  • Core gas safety principles for natural gas, gas water heating and wet central heating appliances

Entry requirements

Minimum Level 1 or GCSE grade D in Maths and English. All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English.  Merit or Distinction in a related subject at Level 2.


Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. Each apprenticeship involves a structured programme of training leading to a recognised qualification, and they are available at different levels, letting you choose the speed you wish to learn at.

Upon completion you will not only achieve the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating, but also Unvented Hot Water Cylinders Certification and a Water Regulations Certificate.

Once all of the above aspects have been completed and achieved then you will be eligible for the Gas Safe Registration.
