English Literature is studied alongside English GCSE and is not an optional subject. You will study a variety of poetry by different poets from modern times as well as pre-1914 poetry. You will also study a modern play, a Shakespeare play and a novel which was written before 1914. In this subject you will develop your essay writing skills and will be expected to write about a literary text such as 'Of Mice and Men' in the exam as well as comparing a range of different poems.
You will be assessed through exam (70%) and coursework (30%).
Some of the coursework crosses over with English and will be assessed for both English and English Literature
You can study this subject at A Level both as English Literature alone or as a combined English Language and Literature exam
