Travel and Tourism BTEC - KIN at Invictus Sixth Form

Course description

Are you passionate about travel? Do you want an exciting career where you could travel the world, meet new people and visit international travel destinations? Then this course could take you there! While completing this programme you will grow in confidence as you acquire a range of skills that are recognised and highly valued by employers and universities. You will develop your understanding of the developments that have shaped the current tourism sector. You will learn how the component industries work together and develop an appreciation for the importance of excellent customer service in the sector. You will gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in planning trips and holidays for customers and you will develop your confidence and improve your skills in dealing with a range of customer types, understanding the factors that affect tourism around the world. You will gain essential practical skills and if you have a lively and enquiring mind and want to study a course that is active and enjoyable then this is the course for you.

Course content

Over the 2 years, you will study 4 units which will be examined both internally and externally through coursework and an exam. You will study the following units-

-The world of travel and tourism- external assessment

-Global destinations - external assessment

-Managing the customer service experience- internal assessment

-Visitor attractions- optional unit

Entry requirements

Specific Entry Requirements for this course ( in addition to at least 5 Grade 5s inc. English and Maths):

Students will need a Level 6 or above in English due to the coursework element

Future opportunities

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:

• Pursue a career in a range of travel and tourism sectors such as cabin crew, a holiday representative, hotel and leisure management, a tour guide, travel agent, a handling agent, airport staff and many more in the UK or overseas

• Progress into Higher Education to study Tourism Management, Travel and Tourism Events Management, Adventure Tourism Management, Travel Journalism or Festival and Event Management
