Further Mathematics AS/A Level 3 at The John Wallis Church of England Academy

Course description

AS: Students will study a further pure mathematics unit (FP1) covering topics such as complex numbers, numerical analysis, matrix algebra and infinite series, plus additional modules from statistics, mechanics and decision mathematics.
A2: Students will study the FP2 and FP3 modules which include further complex numbers, advanced calculus, further vector and matrix algebra, plus an additional advanced module in statistics, mechanics or decision mathematics.

AS:
Compulsory unit Further Pure Mathematics 1: FP1 (33%)
And a choice from M2, M3, S2, S3, D1 or D2
Decision Maths: D1 (33%)
Mechanics 2: M2 (33%)
A2:
Further Pure Mathematics 2:FP2 (33%)
Further Pure Mathematics 3:FP3 (33%)
The 6 units in the Further Mathematics A level must be in addition to the 6 units selected for the standard Mathematics A level course.
All units are equally weighted.
 

Entry requirements

A grade GCSE Maths.

Future opportunities

Commerce, business, accountancy, banking, government and public services, science based careers, marketing and management.You could take this course with an Advanced GCE in Mathematics to support entry to higher education in areas Mathematics, related areas such as Electronics, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer or Financial Adviser. The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the economic and engineering sectors.
