Geography A Level at St Michael's Church of England High School

Course description

Geography is a topical, hugely relevant subject which explores a number of global issues. Geographers are frequently asked to help governments and businesses come up with sustainable solutions to global challenges. As a result, a qualification in Geography will become more relevant and valuable in the future, as you will develop a range of transferable skills.

Course content

At AS, you will study Climate Change, Tectonic Hazards and Hydrology and Population and Settlement Changes. At A2, you will study Glacial Landforms and India, Sustainable Food, Water, Energy and Cities and complete an individual investigation.


Examination – Unit 1 AS (50%) 1.5 hours
Examination – Unit 2 AS (50%)

Examination – Unit 3 A2 (60%) 2.15 hours
Examination – Unit 4 A2 (40%) 1.75 hours

Assessment is via external examination following the WJEC specification.

Future opportunities

Geography is a good qualification for a wide range of HE courses, and can lead to any number of careers. Specialist areas include environmental or natural hazard management, tourism, conservation, work overseas as well as urban design in the UK.
