Photography BTEC Level 3 at Halesowen College

Course description

If you are a keen photographer and want to further your skills this is the course for you.

During the course you will investigate a range of different photographic materials, media, techniques and associated technologies. The emphasis of your study will be on practical exploration and you will develop your creativity through both film-based and digital photography.

The course will give you opportunities to experiment with printing film-based black and white photographic images and to compare the differences with downloading digital-based imagery and using manipulation software to produce a variety of outcomes.

You will also be taught the techniques associated with location and studio photography and gain an understanding of the skills involved in taking successful photographs at the site of an event.

Entry requirements

  • At least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, across a range of subjects including English Language

    You will be expected to resit GCSE Maths and possibly Science if you do not have at least a grade C, depending on specialist recommendation.

Assessment

By assignments and coursework; there are no exams.

Further information

Field trips will be arranged to provide opportunities for you to photograph and visually record a wide variety of subject matter and also to visit galleries to explore artists' work for inspiration.

You must be willing to carry out a large number of photo shoots in order to achieve your goals. One shoot with 12-300 photographs does not always mean you have captured the correct photo to fulfill your assignments. Like most subjects at Level 3, you have to commit additional hours outside taught lessons in order to achieve success.
