Business Studies (Level 1) at New College Swindon
Following this course will give you a wide-ranging knowledge and understanding of basic business practices as well as the practical skills needed to prepare you for the world of work.
There are five main themes to this course, as well as a work experience placement:-
- Employability Skills (working in a team, Communication Skills, problem Solving, Time Management etc.)
- Investigating Careers – Retail, Office & Admin, Travel & Tourism and Leisure
- Using IT in a Business Environment
- Customer Service Skills
- Enterprise Skills (planning and taking part in an enterprising project/event)
You will need GCSE English Language and Maths at grade E or above, although candidates will be considered on an individual basis.
You should have enthusiasm for researching new topics, an enquiring mind and be willing to work with others. In addition, you need to be able to take responsibility for your own learning and development, both at college and whilst out on work experience. Commitment to the course and a mature outlook are essential.
You will be assessed on a regular basis and will need to complete a portfolio of assignments. There are no exams.
The Level 1 Business and Enterprise Skills course is a practical course that helps you to develop the general skills, knowledge and understanding required to gain and maintain employment. The skills that you will develop on this course are recognised by potential employers and a significant part of the course will be spent off-site in a work experience placement. This part of the course is compulsory.
Students will work towards a Certificate or a Diploma in Occupational Studies and the full qualification can lead on to the OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Business. It is also designed to help you find employment in a wide range of businesses.
